The How-To series will guide you through some simple do-it-yourself tasks.
Adding a Footring to your chair can be a great way to increase user comfort by giving users a place to rest their feet, mitigating fatigue and stress in the feet, ankles, knees and thighs. For taller/counter-height chairs where the user cannot place their feet flat on the ground, a Footring allows the user to rest their feet in an ergonomically correct position with the knees at a 90° angle.
Adding a Footring to an Existing Chair:
Step 1: Lay the chair down on its side. Remove the base by pulling on it while tapping the bottom of the gas cylinder with a hammer until it is loose enough to remove.
Step 2: Slide the Footring onto the gas cylinder.
Step 3: Slide the appropriate number of spacers onto the gas cylinder to reach the desired Footring height.
Step 4: Ensure that the Footring is resting on the top spacer, and that the bottom spacer is resting on the chair base. If no spacers are being used, the Footring should sit directly on the chair base.
Step 5: If two or more spacers are being used, the gaps on the spacers should be offset from one another (Shown in Figure 1A and Figure 1B below).
Step 6: Place the chair upright so that the gas lift sits within the centre of the base. Sit on the chair to make sure the gas lift is correctly secured in the base.
Adjusting the Footring Height of a Chair Equipped with a Footring:
Note: If your chair has a 200mm gas cylinder, it will come with 2 spacers. If your chair has a 267mm gas cylinder, it will come with 3 spacers.
Step 1: Lift the square paddle to raise the seat to its maximum height. This will move the seat out of the way when adjusting the Footring.
Step 2: Lift the Footring off the thicker part of the gas cylinder by turning it left and right while applying upward force.
Step 3: Add or remove spacers to reach the desired Footring height. Ensure that the bottom spacer (or the Footring, if there are no spacers) rests on the chair base.
Step 4: If two or more spacers are being used, the gaps on the spacers should be offset from one another (Shown in Figure 1A and Figure 1B below).
Step 5: Place the Footring back onto the thicker part of the gas cylinder, making sure that it is resting on the spacer(s). If no spacers are being used, make sure the Footring is resting on the chair base.
